When you first become the owner of an exotic animal, you should bring your new pet to Ridglea West Animal Hospital for an
Exotic Pet Exam which includes:

Collection of Background Information

• Identification of species, gender, and age
• Body weight with medical grade digital scale
• Documentation of indoor or outdoor housing
• Review of diet
• Reproductive history
• Examination of transport container
• Analysis of droppings
• Evaluation of historical grooming techniques for the wings, nails, beaks, and tails
• Relevant pet husbandry issues
  
  

A Physical Examination of:

• Eyes, ears and nasal passages
• Internal body systems via touch analysis
• Beak or mouth
• Feathers, scales, or skin
• Neck, pectoral, and abdomen
• Limb and wing mobility
• Musculature tone
• Legs and joints
• Back and tail base

Blood work up where necessary or practical.
